Parsec allows clients to use any controller of their choice, but when they connect to a host computer, the host will convert it to a specific controller type.

  • Press the button, or move the joystick, to map the physical button to the input option.
  • Ensure 'State' for relevant button says 'Do something.'.
  • Click 'Map' on the button you want to remap.
  • Select the specific controller you want to remap in the dropdown menu.
  • You should ensure the game on the host isn't mapped incorrectly either, in that case. If things are mapped properly on the client, the rest is up to the game on the host. If your controller seems to be mapped wrong, the main thing you should do is confirm where your buttons are are mapped to, and adjust mappings if necessary. If your controller does not work correctly, see our troubleshooting page for controller issues.
  • Start a game and play! (depending on the game, you may need to enable co-op or configure the game).
  • The host computer should play an USB plug-in sound, indicating that the controller has been added.
  • Press one of the face buttons on the controller(s) you want to use to add it to the host computer.
  • Connect to a computer on Parsec, via the Computers tab.

In the Windows version of the Parsec app, you can choose to have your virtual controller emulated as an Xbox controller or as a DS4 controller. If your friends or guests prefer to use a gamepad, it should work out of the box, but some additional customization may be necessary depending on the gamepad type and/or player preference. This is what worked for me, hope this helps anyone else having this issue with Parsec. The Parsec app enables gamepad input to be passed from client to host using our virtual USB driver. The mic will still pick up what you say but you won’t hear yourself through your speakers/headphones. If you’re hearing yourself through your speakers/headphones: open the volume mixer and mute your microphone output.

Follow the instructions for Manual Echo Canceling from this link.Turn off Echo Canceling in the Host Settings. Here’s a quick rundown on how I’ve solved the intermittent/ client only hears the game music sound issues. This involves installing a virtual audio cable and tweaking your sound device settings. That’s where Parsec’s manual solution for echo canceling comes to save the day. Which is super annoying…so we have to fix that. If you turn this off, the client will be able to hear all the in-game sounds as well as their own voice echoing back at them via Discord. It turns out the automatic echo canceling feature in the Host settings is the culprit here. Sometimes the client will hear a stray sound effect from the game but for the most part, can only hear the music/background noise. We ran into an issue where the client could hear the in-game music and some of the menu sound effects but couldn’t hear in-game sound effects or voices. I found a lack of information regarding this issue so I wanted to write something up in case anyone else is running into this.
